AI as a Lever for Innovation in Architecture, Engineering, and Construction
AECforward Ltd is a start-up in ConTech ("construction" and "technology")—a sector of activity connecting the construction industry and innovation—that applies artificial intelligence in the disciplines of architecture, engineering, and construction, to facilitate operational processes and boost the productivity of urban designers. AECforward leverages E+C- databases and develops bots to optimize the production of plans, structures, and thermal simulations.
In addition, AECforward is “creating an interactive model for mining data from the E+C- database to predict a building’s carbon footprint.” Drawing on the E+C- database comprising over 1,500 buildings, AECforward combines indicators relating to usage, materials, and energy to calculate carbon footprints for each building type.
For example, a multi-family dwelling using solid timber as the primary material and wood pellets as the energy carrier for DHW and heating will have a low carbon footprint, with a predicted GHGE of 882 KgCO2/m2.
