Earth Esthetic and Performance

In 2021, Atelier Franck Boutté was the winner of a research project conducted as part of FAIRE 2021, a platform that invites multidisciplinary teams to propose innovative research and experiments to tackle major urban challenges. The Earth Esthetic and Performance study set out to explore the design and performance of compressed earth blocks (CEB). The results of this project, which merit more in-depth and thorough studies in the long term, are very clear as regards the properties it offers: CEB provide much more advantageous hygro-regulatory, energy, and carbon gains compared with plaster partition walls and concrete.

FAIRE is a research and experimentation program launched by the Pavillon de l’Arsenal (Paris Center for Architecture and Urban Planning) with the City of Paris, the Caisse des Dépôts, MINI, and EDF. It is an accelerator for innovative architectural and urban programs.

For the occasion of the release of this rewarding project and during the FAIRE CLUB 2022, our research engineer in carbon strategies and bio-based materials, Nina Mahe-Rome, took to the stage with Louise Dubois, materials designer at Atelier Aïno.

The Earth Esthetic and Performance project was led by Aymeric Anquetin, with Nina Mahé-Rome, Atelier Aïno for the coordination and design research components, and Amàco, in charge of the manufacturing.
This study was co-funded by Cycle Terre and Les Grands Ateliers.
