Methodological Guide of La Rue Commune
Paris
2023

What if everything started with the streets of our cities? The omnipresence of cars, the effects of climate change, the emergence of new uses… Today, the street is facing an imperative transformation—one that will only contribute to urban and territorial resilience if it is collectively orchestrated and implemented. This is the essence and ambition of the Rue Commune project.
Led by Richez_Associés, Atelier Franck Boutté, and Leonard, the Rue Commune project represents 12 months of extensive work and rich exchanges with a broad community of public stakeholders, experts, and students. A public consultation conducted by Make.org gathered proposals from over 25,000 contributors. Case studies were carried out on both national and international scales, in partnership with Construction21 - France.
This work led to the creation of the Methodological Guide and, a year later, the eponymous book—advocating for the transformation of streets, for calmer cities that address the challenges of adapting territories to climate disruption, the necessary evolution of mobility within metropolises congested by road traffic, and emerging health crises in densely populated areas.
