The Book of La Rue Commune
Paris
2023

One-third of French people live on an ordinary street. Not a main road or a grand boulevard—no. A secondary, more common street, which also represents the vast majority of roadways in large cities. Yet, these streets remain overlooked in the revaluation of public space, even as climate and societal challenges render them outdated.
Addressed to elected officials, citizens, and urban planning professionals, the book offers an operational method to accelerate the adaptation of ordinary streets to climate and social emergencies. It provides a new vision of the metropolitan street, aiming to transform it into a Common Street.
One year after the launch of the Methodological Guide, it is the result of a renewed collaboration between Richez_Associés, Leonard, and the agency— a territorial resilience project supported by ADEME.
