An Experience-Sharing Tool for Low-Energy Building Projects

In 2009, the French Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development, and Energy, ADEME and the sustainability collective Effinergie developed the Observatoire BBC, “a tool for sharing experiences in relation to low-energy building projects.” Designed as a database of technical data sheets for energy-plus (Bepos) and low-energy buildings, the Observatoire BBC promotes design expertise and low-energy retrofitting, and shares best practices in the areas of energy-efficient and sustainable construction.

If you’re looking for new builds with an Effinergie + energy rating, check out the Sciences Po Campus in Paris, a combined rehabilitation and new-build project, where Atelier Franck Boutté addressed the challenges of biodiversity, rainwater management, thermal efficiency of listed buildings, natural light, and user comfort.

A real mine of information, the Observatoire BBC also provides a “Design & Performance” statistical module that gives energy performance data for five uses (lighting, ventilation, cooling, heating and DHW), by building type.
