“La Rue Commune” in Print
Paris, 07.11.2023

One-third of French citizens live in an ordinary, residential street. Not a major thoroughfare or wide, leafy avenue. A secondary, commonplace street which represents the vast majority of streets in big cities. And yet they remain a largely overlooked aspect of the revaluation of public space, at a time when climate and societal challenges render them obsolete.
One year after the publication of the Guide méthodologique de La Rue Commune, the Richez_Associés, Leonard, and Atelier Franck Boutté consortium, supported by ADEME, is pleased to announce the publication of the eponymous book for use by elected representatives, citizens, and urban planning professionals.
The book outlines an operational method for speeding up the adaptation of ordinary streets to cope with climate and social emergencies. It presents a new vision of the metropolitan street, so that it becomes a shared street for everyone to enjoy.
Promoting streets:
- Adapted to climate change
- Adapted to soft mobility, where pedestrian speed becomes standard
- Designed to accommodate manifold uses
