The Reversibility of Materials

In northern Mexico lies Taos, a community founded by Mike Reynolds that hosts the largest number of Earthships. Nearly 50 years ago, the architect was the first to develop these houses built from waste materials—used tires, aluminum cans, and glass bottles—repurposed into bricks for constructing his home.

Over the following decades, his designs continued to evolve, incorporating thermal mass, passive solar energy, and natural ventilation to respect the environment and combat climate change through architecture.

The resulting project is the Earthship we know today— a self-sufficient dwelling built with natural and recycled materials, a unique architectural creation that draws inspiration from the past while envisioning the future.
