Three Post-Carbon Districts
Book
Espaces Ferroviaires has published Trois futurs quartiers parisiens post-carbone (Three Post-Carbon Districts in Paris), a book exploring the conversion of three former railway sites into mixed-use, low-carbon urban neighborhoods: Jardin des Mécanos, Hébert, and Les Messageries. Extending the exhibition at the Pavillon de l'Arsenal, the book brings together contributions from numerous stakeholders—architects, urban planners, landscape architects, researchers—involved in these urban transformation projects.
For the Messageries neighborhood (12th arrondissement), Atelier Franck Boutté designed the project's environmental strategy. It integrates climate, energy, biodiversity, and carbon issues at all scales. Bioclimatic urban design, water management, energy performance, and environmental standards: all levers are being mobilized to make this neighborhood a post-carbon benchmark in a dense environment.
In his contribution to the book, Franck Boutté revisits the fundamental principles upheld by the Atelier: anticipating future climate conditions, adapting urban and architectural forms, and hybridizing solutions according to context.
"We must produce buildings that are adapted or adaptable to the conditions of tomorrow. The thread of shadow (a building that generates its own shadow, for example), the thickening of volumes, arcades, the penetration of breezes, and the climate-cultural hybridization of architectural forms are all principles that we are gradually integrating into our projects to meet future challenges. " - Franck Boutté
Les Messageries illustrates how we combine technical, urban, and climatic dimensions to build a resilient city that is rooted in its time and focused on the future.
