Winner of the Multimodal Marengo Exchange Hub Project
Toulouse, 21.03.2024
On Thursday March 21, 2024, André-Marie Dogbo, director of studies at Atelier Franck Boutté, attended the inauguration of the exhibition where Carole Delga, president of the Occitania region, and Jean-Luc Moudenc, mayor of Toulouse and president of Toulouse Métropole, unveiled the architectural project for the Multimodal Marengo Exchange Hub.
We were delighted to be part of the winning team alongside BIG - Bjarke Ingels Group and A+Architecture.
Much more than just a transit hub, the new “Mobility Hall” is a key element of the Grand Matabiau Quais d’Oc urban project. The building’s ambition is to transform the station into a multimodal hub, in keeping with the city’s architectural heritage. With its transparent wood structure, it is an invitation for meeting up, interacting, and working together. It will house cultural events, play areas, cafés, and restaurants.
The AFB team spent time meticulously developing innovative technical solutions to meet several objectives:
- Minimizing environmental impact: particular care was taken in the choice of building materials to minimize the carbon footprint;
- Inviting nature in: taking advantage of the proximity of the Canal du Midi, we integrated natural elements and green spaces, creating a dense and varied ecosystem;
- Maximizing natural light: to improve quality of life for users and reduce energy consumption;
- Striking the right balance between renewable energy and greenhouse gas emissions: designing a sloping roof/canopy that facilitates water management and the installation of photovoltaic panels, and promotes natural ventilation.
Work will start in 2026, with completion scheduled for the end of 2028.
The highest environmental certifications are targeted: BDO Silver label, HQE infrastructures certification, Bâtiment Biosourcé level 2 label, Effinature label for the entire site, BiodiverCity label...
