Matinale de l ESSEC A coloriser

Organized by the ESSEC Chair of Urban Economics, in partnership with EDF and Leonard, the 5th edition of the Matinales de l'Habitabilité: Cadre de vie et adaptation climatique, also brought together Madeleine Masse from Atelier Soil, and Paul-Emmanuel Schoeller, Director of Territorial Action and Institutional Relations at EDF's DPNT. A round table led by Edouard Dequeker, professor of the Chair.

During this round table, Loïc Chesne spoke on the question of the value of places and its systemic dimension. He addressed the following in particular:

  • The distinction between elementary values and aggregated values
  • Economic value as a reflection of multiple factors – environmental, social, heritage
  • The idea of systemic investment: intervening on a property while taking into account its environment to reinforce its intrinsic value
  • And finally, a clear position: sustainable profit is the only legitimate profit in the long term.

All these concepts call for a review of the logic of investment and development at the territorial level.

Heritage value, social ties, local identity... The living environment is asserting itself as an essential common good, both as a social resource and a factor of attractiveness. Whether natural environments or urban amenities, these elements structure the location choices of residents as much as they are of collective use. But in the face of the effects of global warming, their transformation - or even their degradation - calls into question their resilience and the way in which we value them.
