Alongside Richez_Associés and Agence Catherine Dormoy, our proposal was selected for the construction of a 96-bed EHPAD on the Perray-Vaucluse site, for the Paris Psychiatry & Neurosciences GHU.

The project, located close to a listed wood with preserved trees, is based on an architecture at one with nature. An architecture-landscape designed to care, live and connect.

After two years of renovation, the Paris Chamber of Notaries, located on Place du Châtelet, has been inaugurated.

This major transformation, led by Atelier Senzu, has breathed new life and coherence into this iconic 1855 building, adapting it to contemporary notarial practices. Atelier Franck Boutté was responsible for the environmental approach, with a strategy based on enhancing the intrinsic qualities of the building.

On the occasion of the release of the book "Reinhabiting", published by the program Committed to the Quality of Tomorrow's Housing, in partnership with the public interest group Europe of Architectural and Urban Projects and ENSA Paris-Belleville, Franck Boutté will take part in the debate evening alongside Emmanuelle Cosse, Christine Leconte, Caroline Poulin, Félix Mulle, Serge Le Boulch, Lucie Jouannard, and Jean-Baptiste Marie. The debate will be moderated by Hugo Christy.

As part of Bangladesh Week in France (from April 7 to 12, 2025), and in partnership with the Alliance Française of Dhaka and the Institut Français, the Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine is organizing a cross-exchange on the old city, climate challenges, and local urban forms—with Marc Barani, Luis Lopez Aspeitia, Mathieu Lucas, and Franck Boutté.

Organized by the ESSEC Chair of Urban Economics, in partnership with EDF and Leonard, the round table also brought together Madeleine Masse from Atelier Soil, Paul-Emmanuel Schoeller, Director of Territorial Action and Institutional Relations at EDF's DPNT, and was moderated by Edouard Dequeker, professor of the Chair.

Among 492 applications, our team is one of the 30 selected to rethink the future of priority neighborhoods in France. We will have the opportunity to work on an iconic site: the Tarterêts boiler house in Corbeil-Essonnes.

After a year of work, the vision for transforming La Défense was unveiled in front of 300 investors, companies and local personalities. We are proud to have contributed to this strategic, programmatic, urban and architectural vision.

On the Pierre and Marie Curie campus (formerly Jussieu), in the 5th arrondissement of Paris, the building stands out with its fan-shaped façades inclined up to 18° and a light-filled conical atrium. Its architecture, designed by BIG and Oxo, fits into a dense urban site while innovating through a hybrid concrete-steel structure and a green roof with views of Notre-Dame, conceived as a space for work and relaxation.

We are very proud to be among the 50 projects selected to represent France at the French Pavilion during the 19th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale.

Located in the 17th arrondissement of Paris, Mondo is a project involving the rehabilitation and merging of two buildings totaling 32,000 m². Designed by Béchu Associés, it perfectly illustrates the potential to transform existing structures into virtuous, high-performing, and resilient workspaces. Atelier Franck Boutté supported the environmental approach.

Alongside the agencies Louis Téqui and ANdma Architectes, and project owner Kaufman & Broad Bretagne, the team plans to breathe new life into this former place of learning by making the most of its existing potential.

The housing of tomorrow is not merely a matter of comfort or aesthetics: it lies at the heart of climate, social, and territorial challenges. Réhabiter seeks to imagine more sustainable housing, better suited to future uses, through 48 contributions from elected officials, sociologists, architects, urban planners, and developers.

Winner of a competition in 2024, the Croizat-Houël block project is moving forward with the recent submission of its building permit. Developed alongside Brenac & Gonzalez et Associés, this 120-unit housing program will redefine the entrance to the city of Vénissieux while respecting its heritage and environment.

Developed for ADEME, in collaboration with engineering group Ingérop and its environmental expertise subsidiary Actierra, this kit—comprising three booklets—is designed to help cities adapt to urban overheating, a critical challenge in light of the increasing duration, intensity, and frequency of heatwaves.

For the 2025 edition, Franck Boutté spoke on the theme: "Construir ciudades inteligentes desde la base" / Building intrinsically smart cities.

His talk focused on sustainable urban development strategies, emphasizing the integration of solutions to address the challenges posed by population growth and climate change. He particularly highlighted the importance of rethinking territorial planning by considering interactions between urban and rural areas, in order to foster harmonious social integration and restore broken ecological continuities.

The Villes et Territoires division of the Atelier, together with the KCAP,  Phytolab, Studio Vicarini, Egis, Enviroscop team, has won the framework agreement for urban project management for the redevelopment of the Magasins Généraux site in Le Havre.

The former RATP warehouse, transformed into a sports center by THINK TANK architecture, has won two awards: the AMO 2024 Prize in the "Most Creative Typology" category and the 2024 Eiffel Trophy in the "Entertainment" category.

In 2024, the Atelier celebrates its 20th anniversary. Twenty years dedicated to consulting, engineering, and environmental co-design. Twenty years of research, innovation, and connections. Twenty years of exploration.

During the 2024 edition of the Design Workshops organized by the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées, Matteo Migliari and Yan Ulanowski (Sense-City, Gustave Eiffel University) led the "Rue Canyon" workshop, an innovative educational format designed by Matteo as part of his research project: MESH 2C.

Out of more than 160 international submissions, our team was selected for the project to transform CAP 44, now known as the Cité des Imaginaires. The project is part of the “Grand Débat sur la Loire” (Loire Great Debate), whose aim is to preserve the Loire’s heritage.

Last month, Michelin unveiled the “Quartier des Pistes” project, the redevelopment of a brownfield site into one centered around wellbeing, culture, and tourism.

For its rehabilitation of the site of a former agricultural cooperative, the AFB team is planning a mixed program of housing, shops, amenities, and a 3.3-hectare landscaped public park. Our studio has several ambitious plans aligned with high-level mitigation and adaptation trajectories.

Our studio was selected to participate in the strategic reprogramming project of the Belval district in Luxembourg. This was an opportunity for us to carry out studies on an exceptional example of brownfield reconversion, city–industry synergies, large-scale functional and ecological balances... and to forge a new path that aligns with new climate regimes.

From March to July 2023, Nantes Métropole launched the “Great Debate” on the “Fabric of Our Cities. Let’s Invent Tomorrow’s World Together” (in French: Fabrique de nos villes. Ensemble, inventons la vie de demain) to gather the opinions of residents of the metropolitan area’s 24 communes on how to build and inhabit our cities of tomorrow. All the proposals were put under the microscope and summarized in a report published last November. Since then, the metropolitan area’s councilors have analyzed and debated the issues raised by the “Great Debate”. This analysis phase culminated in a collective roadmap presented on April 18. Franck attended the event to talk about his interpretation of the roadmap.

The French Agency for Ecological Transition (ADEME) organized the second edition of its Great Ecological Challenge on the theme of “Activating Solutions Together.” The event offered concrete, accessible solutions to change the way we inhabit our planet, during which we presented the “Rue Commune” (Shared Steet) project.

Carole Delga, president of the Occitania Region, and Jean-Luc Moudenc, mayor of Toulouse and president of Toulouse Métropole, unveiled the winning project for the construction of the “Halle des Mobilités.”

We’re delighted to be part of the winning team alongside BIG - Bjarke Ingels Group and A+Architecture, contributing to its environmental credentials.

As part of the POWER exhibition at Civa in Brussels, the microclimatic approach to the design of the square in front of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris was put under the spotlight. Studies on summer thermal comfort based on the site’s current and future climates were projected on to the model of the cathedral’s surroundings, spotlighting these challenges in the dark room.

The Adidas Arena has finally opened to the public. On the day’s program: activities and workshops open to all and, as a highlight, a Paris Basketball match.

ANRU, France’s National Agency for Urban Renewal, organized a one-off symposium on the future of urban renewal, to round off a series of events coordinated by ANRU and its partners to mark the 20th anniversary of urban renewal. Franck Boutté gave a keynote address.

For its 2024 edition, EnerJ Meeting will take place in the heart of Paris, at the Carrousel du Louvre. The event welcomed professionals, experts, and decision-makers to exchange knowledge, best practices, and innovative solutions and to promote sustainability in the fields of construction and building management. A day in which Franck Boutté participated, giving a keynote speech on the topic of “Summer Comfort and Urban Planning: What Sustainable Solutions?”

Just over two years since the campus’s inauguration, the book “Bâtir : L'École Normale Supérieure Paris - Saclay: Renzo Piano Building Workshop" looks back at the construction process and various aspects of the project, in which the environment was the beating heart of the architectural design.

The entire team at Atelier Franck Boutté, in Paris, Nantes, Rennes, and Bordeaux, wishes you a 2024 filled with enriching transitions, developments, and opportunities for hybridization!

Located in the heart of the École Polytechnique district on the Saclay Plateau, this architecturally unique building will house the teaching and learning facilities of seven higher education and research establishments, including the École Polytechnique, which has spearheaded this ambitious collective project.

Overlooking Brest harbor, the building is shaped like a ship anchored to the cliff edge, reinforcing the company’s close ties with the sea. White and glazed on its southern facade, the structure will stand bright and visible on the horizon.

Conceived by French daily Libération, the Climat Libé Tour criss-crosses France to explore the challenges of the ecological transition through a series of debates, meetings, and workshops. In Nantes, for a weekend, it will explore the zero net artificialization (ZAN) target to be achieved by 2050, an initiative central to the issues of pollution, new builds, and the preservation of biodiversity.

One year after the launch of the Guide de la Rue Commune, the book is now out in print! Aimed at elected representatives, citizens, and urban planning professionals, the publication outlines a method for bringing about change to tackle the climatic and social challenges of the 21st century. It presents a new vision of the metropolitan street, so that it becomes a shared street for everyone to enjoy.

Grenoble-Alpes Métropole (an intercommunal structure in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France, centered around the city of Grenoble) has undertaken to amend general law no. 3 in the Intercommuncal Urban Development Local Plan (PLUi) to adapt to bioclimatization. Its aim is to strengthen the region’s capacity to adapt to climate change. They called on Franck Boutté as a key witness to provide his environmental expertise during a series of four seminars aimed at regional elected officials.

Launched in the summer of 2022 by the Agglomeration Community of Grand Avignon in partnership with the City of Avignon, the consultation resulted in the Inspir’Avignon project, the first demonstration macro-island in the future Avignon-Confluences district, located near the TGV train station.

After the first edition of the Festival de la Ville in 2022, the nonprofit Va Jouer Dehors returned with the 2023 edition: Extrem City. The festival invited architects, urban planners, elected officials, developers, writers, artists, philosophers, journalists, citizens, and Franck Boutté to take a fresh look at the city and propose concrete, unifying projects.

Places du Grand Paris is the outcome of a three-year study, commissioned by Société du Grand Paris and Île-de-France Mobilités and carried out by a team of designers, researchers, and scientists. The book serves as a guide to designing public spaces, with the aim of fostering a common culture around these spaces. It has been designed for owners and designers of public spaces at the 68 future stations of the Grand Paris Express, to help them steer, program, design and manage these spaces.

For the preview of the exhibition Hors site (mais pas hors-sol) (Off-site but not off the ground), Franck Boutté took part in a round table hosted by Hugo Christy, alongside Linda Gilardone, co-founder of the studio LA Architectures, and Antoine Picon, DPLG (state-accredited) architect and doctor of history. The exhibition Hors site (mais pas hors-sol) (Off-site but not off the ground) was held from September 28 to November 30, 2023 at the Maison de l’architecture Île-de-France.

Last week, Alix Derouin, André-Marie Dogbo, and Franck Boutté attended the SIBCA – Low Carbon Property Show. On the program were three presentations and two interviews, which provided opportunities for a compelling exchange of views on a wide range of subjects, including mobility, sustainable urban planning, and transitions (ecological, economic, social, and societal).

Last week, the results of the MESH 2 C research project, winner of ADEME’s Modeval-Urba 2019-2020 call for research proposals, were presented in Sydney at the 11th International Conference on Urban Climate (ICUC11) by Matteo Migliari, a PhD student working our studio.

A few days ago, Mohamed Benzerzour, project director at the studio and lecturer at ENSA Nantes, took part in the Business Club organized by Ville Hybride, an urban innovation agency. The community gathered at the Cité maraichère venue in Romainville for an event around the theme “What Future for the Low-carbon City?”

Mohamed spoke about the tools developed by Atelier Franck Boutté— matrices, sustainability figures, forward-looking scenarios, and others—designed to share knowledge and raise awareness.

As part of the European “Dramatically Reducing Embodied Carbon in Europe” (DREC) program, run at European level by the Carbon Neutral Cities Alliance network, MEL and CD2E organized a series of participatory workshops bringing together tradespeople, architects, project managers, suppliers, and others.

A wine cellar made entirely of local solid stone, mixed wood/concrete floors, and bio-based insulation impacting the depth and thickness of the walls, wind and water...

In June, Atelier Franck Boutté took part in the launch event for the collaborative program initiated by actors in the Nantes Métropole entitled “Environmental Performance & Economic Sustainability: Stakeholders Get Engaged.”

Atelier Franck Boutté attended the Moniteur Innovation Day (MID), which took place at La Seine Musicale.

The Hermès Leather Goods Factory (Maroquinerie Hermès) in Louviers has been awarded E+C- certification (level E4C2). This makes it the first industrial building to be awarded France’s highest environmental label!

Work on the Bizot site in Paris’s 12th arrondissement is now complete! The former RATP warehouse converted into a sports center by Think Tank Architecture is now open to the public.

On June 21, Franck Boutté spoke at the Building Beyond Festival on the theme of “Offices by Day, Housing by Night: Can the Use of Buildings Be Scaled Up?”, alongside Celine Crestin (director of strategy and responsible development at Paris La Défense) and Sylvain Grisot (urban planner and founder of dixit.net).

« Adaptation: a New Challenge for Urbanism, Narratives to Promote Resilient Regions. »

Franck Boutté gave the opening speech at the 24th International Urban Planning Conference organized by APERAU (Association for the Promotion of Education and Research in Urban Planning and Development).

Pandemics, climate crisis, heatwaves, energy crisis, migrations... crises in all their forms are backing us into taking a hyperrealist approach to ecological issues, a brutal baptism of fire that compels us individually and collectively to take action, by way of a combination of mitigation and adaptation strategies.

Matteo Migliari, a doctoral student at the studio, spoke at the French Civil Engineering Congress held at the École normale supérieure Paris-Saclay.

In relation to the congress theme, “Cities of the Future and Climate Change”, he gave a presentation about the characterization of the microclimatic and biometeorological behavior of multilayer soil complexes for different surface materials.

Adaptation to climate change requires us to study each construction material; here, our study focused on the strata of materials that make up the ground in urban environments used by pedestrians and vehicles. The results obtained enabled us to characterize the impact of each type of ground covering on the urban heat island effect and on individual thermal comfort.

The new Urgence Climatique (Climate Emergency) permanent exhibition at the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie in Paris provides a broad panorama of the various mechanisms we can harness to balance decarbonization and adaptation in our societies. Alongside other experts, Franck Boutté was asked by Universcience to speak in a video on the topic of “decarbonizing.”

On Thursday May 4, 23 students from the Architecture, Civil Engineering, and Environmental Sciences program at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) visited us at our offices in Paris to delve into Atelier Franck Boutté’s philosophy and what makes our studio different from others.

We hope this visit was as rewarding to the group of future architects and engineers as it was a pleasure for us to share our vision.

On April 27, at the invitation of the AIMF (International Association of French-speaking Mayors), Franck Boutté took part in a round table discussion entitled “Francophone Cities in Transition: Centers of Progress on a Human Scale?”

The aim of this meeting is to work together to build, drawing on a range of perspectives, a form of city governance that will have an ever-greater impact in the face of major global challenges.

From now until August 20, the Pavillon de l’Arsenal is presenting three development projects in Paris occupying vast swaths of land freed up by the optimization of railway activities—including Les Messageries, in Paris’s 12th arrondissement, for which the studio is handling the environmental engineering.

We were delighted to take part in the Ateliers Design 2023, which brought together 350 students from three different schools: École des Ponts ParisTech, École d’architecture de la ville & des territoires Paris-Est, and École Penninghen, with the aim of imagining and building high-performance structures using compulsory materials.

At the invitation of architecture school ENSA Grenoble, Franck Boutté presented a lecture to a room full of future city planners, entitled, “And Now What? Future Seeks Regions.”

On April 13 and 14, Franck Boutté, André-Marie (Director of Studies), and Alix Derouin (Director of Communication and Development) spent 24 hours in Nantes with two objectives in mind: a conference at the invitation of ENSA and a visit to the Nantes office.

We are officially winners of Block J2 in the Prairie au Duc district on Ile de Nantes!

The project, which proposes programs of offices, housing, and retail split between 6 buildings from R+2 to R+9, was presented on March 9 and 10 at the Urban Projects Forum in Nantes.

In December, Franck Boutté was awarded the Grand Prix de l’Urbanisme (Urban Planning Prize) 2022.

Established in 1989, the Grand Prix de l’Urbanisme (Urban Planning Prize) is awarded each year to a leading figure in the industry by an international jury. It recognizes the work of industry professionals who contribute to achieving progress in the discipline and improving the living environment of people in regions everywhere.

Franck Boutté spoke at the second conference of the General Assembly on the Transformation of Skyscrapers organized at the initiative of Paris La Défense.

Is the skyscraper an environmental aberration? What levers can be activated to reduce their carbon footprint?

As part of its efforts to promote the use of bio-based materials in its projects, Atelier Franck Boutté attended the first National Straw Construction Congress (Congrès National de la Construction Paille), held in Poitiers, France on February 9-11. This was an opportunity to talk to a number of actors in the sector, and to find out about how it intersects with the RE2020, costs, and regulatory issues.

Guided tour, for all our employees, of the superb exhibition at the Pavillon de l’Arsenal: “Conserving, Adapting, Transmitting.” Three projects the studio worked on featured at the show.

Our “Earth Esthetic and Performance” research project, carried out throughout the year as part of the call for proposals launched by FAIRE 2021, run by the Pavillon de l’Arsenal, has now come to an end. The aim of this experiment was to examine the architectural design and thermal and environmental performance of compressed earth blocks (CEB).

The results of this project, which merit more in-depth and extensive studies in the long term, are very clear as regards the properties offered by CEB, which provide greater hygroregulation, energy, and carbon gains compared with plaster partition walls and concrete.

At the ANAH plenary session held on November 17, 2022, Franck Boutté spoke on the theme of “Housing at the Heart of Quality of (City) Life,” and was asked about the concept of sobriety.

On December 12, 2022, Franck Boutté received the Grand Prix de l’Urbanisme (Urban Planning Prize) at the Cité internationale universitaire de Paris, awarded by Olivier Klein, Minister with Special Responsibility for the City and Housing.

It was a day of fascinating sessions, and we were delighted and proud to share it with city stakeholders and guests involved in the round tables devised by Franck with Ariella Masboungi (winner of the GPU 2016).
